Katie Lynagh is an associate in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Trusts, Estates and Exempt Organizations Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

Ms. Lynagh focuses her practice on trust and estate planning and administration for individuals, families and fiduciaries.  She advises individuals and their families on domestic and international estate planning—including gift, estate, and generation-skipping transfer tax planning. Her practice also includes advising clients on complex issues of income tax planning and philanthropic giving. She has experience advising, drafting, and negotiating pre- and post-nuptial agreements.  Ms. Lynagh also represents the principals of closely held businesses, private equity funds and hedge funds.

As counsel to fiduciaries, Ms. Lynagh, advises executors and trustees on sophisticated legal and tax issues related to trust and estate administration. Her practice includes counseling executors and trustees regarding their fiduciary duties, administering large estates and trusts, resolving contested matters, and representing clients in estate and gift tax audits.

Ms. Lynagh maintains an active pro bono practice. She has recently provided estate planning services for elderly veterans, advised a charitable organization in a grant dispute, and represented domestic violence victims in contested divorce proceedings.

Ms. Lynagh is currently the Chair of the Estate and Trust Administration Committee of the Trusts and Estates Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and previously served as the Vice-Chair of the Section’s Legislation and Governmental Relations Committee.  Ms. Lynagh has lectured on estate planning and administration topics, including for the American Law Institute, the New York State Bar Association, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She is the author of articles in the tax and estate planning area for the Bloomberg BNA Estates, Gifts & Trusts Journal, the Trusts and Estates Law Section Journal of the New York State Bar Association, the Leimberg Information Services, Inc. Estate Planning Newsletter, and the New York Law Journal.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Ms. Lynagh received her J.D. from New York University School of Law, where she was an articles editor of the New York University Journal of Law and Business. Previously, Ms. Lynagh worked in financial services for a major accounting and business consulting firm.
