Alexander Anderson is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Tax Group.
Primary Focus & Experience
Mr. Anderson’s practice is focused on US federal income tax issues in complex, high-profile matters. His practice encompasses debtor- and creditor-side restructurings in and out of chapter 11; debt and equity offerings; secured and unsecured financings; securitizations across asset classes ranging from leased aircraft and engines to music, film, and oil and gas interests; strategic and private equity mergers and acquisitions, including post-acquisition integration planning; alternative investment fund formation; and entertainment, sports and media transactions. Representative engagements include advising term lenders, corporate debtors and investment firms in major chapter 11 proceedings and other restructurings, counseling private equity sponsors on strategic acquisitions and advising on major transactions in the aviation sector.

Mr. Anderson frequently publishes articles and client updates addressing significant issues affecting his clients and speaks at tax, financial services and investment industry events. In addition, he has taught US federal income tax topics at the University of Michigan Law School. Alex is consistently recognized among the country's premier tax practitioners by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US.
He has committed time to pro bono work, with a focus on advancing the arts, education, voting rights, and initiatives benefiting underserved and low-income communities. In recognition of his dedication to public service, he has been honored as an “Empire State Counsel” by the New York State Bar Association. He also regularly advises artists, playwrights, filmmakers, musicians, entrepreneurs, and small business owners on matters including business and nonprofit formation, governance and conflict-of-interest policies, and applications for tax-exempt status.
