Milbank was recognized for its transactional pro bono efforts by Pro Bono Partnership at a Volunteers of the Year event held on May 6 at Hudson Yards.
Pro Bono Partnership is a nonprofit organization that provides free business and transactional legal help to other nonprofits serving underrepresented people in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
“It is an honor to recognize Milbank as our Volunteer of the Year for the firm’s outstanding work with nonprofits in New York State,” said Nancy Eberhardt, Executive Director of Pro Bono Partnership. “Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, like those at Milbank, nonprofits can focus on their missions without the burden of legal fees. Milbank lawyers have assisted on matters ranging from real estate and employment law to contracts and corporate governance. Providing nonprofits with the legal guidance they need, at no charge, helps those charities increase capacity and do more good in our neighborhoods.
Through its collaboration with Pro Bono Partnership, Milbank assisted several nonprofits on 15 matters in 2024. Milbank attorneys advised Co.Dance on its corporate combination, including preparing documentation, structuring the consolidation and drafting an agreement; helped EngageAsia with several corporate documents, bylaws, conflicts of interest policy and a certificate of incorporation; and represented Rivertown Dance Academy in structuring a relationship with another corporate entity.
“We’re fortunate to work with Pro Bono Partnership on a range of matters that are vital to local communities,” said Anthony Cassino, Milbank’s pro bono counsel. “Our transactional pro bono work continues to expand as we collaborate with organizations that serve the disadvantaged.”
