Hillary Sale, a Professor of Law at Georgetown Law who previously led a day-long Women’s Leadership Workshop at the May 2019 Milbank@Harvard Module II program, visited Milbank’s New York office on January 23 to lead a follow-up session on leadership and self-advocacy in the workplace for the women associates who had attended her May program and to introduce a new Self-Advocacy program for our junior women associates.

More than 40 US-based women associates in the classes of 2017 and 2018 attended Self-Advocacy for Junior Women Associates. The program introduces women to the importance of acting as a strong self-advocate early in one’s career. Participants discussed topics such as soliciting and managing feedback, developing a game plan, and practical tips for day-to-day office and client interactions. The associates were encouraged to ask questions and discuss challenging instances in their careers, and Professor Sale offered tips for navigating these scenarios successfully. The workshop was followed by a post-program reception for participants and members of the Women’s Initiative, Professional Development and Diversity & Inclusion Committees.

This program is part of a larger initiative to provide women associates with relevant career development resources and skills. Participants will continue to build on these skills when they attend Milbank@Harvard Module I in their fourth year and then in their fifth year when they will spend a full day with Professor Sale in a Leadership Workshop at Milbank@Harvard Module II.
