Milbank Alumni

Milbank alumni are Fortune 500 execs, public and nonprofit sector leaders, and entrepreneurs who carry on our firm’s tradition of excellence.

We invite our alumni to follow us on social media, and to subscribe to our mailing list to receive publications, news and event invitations.

If you have any questions or feedback, please contact alumni@milbank.com.

We’re proud of our ongoing connections with our alumni. Whether they’ve been away from the firm for months or decades, I’m always impressed by how enthusiastic and engaged they continue to be, from firm social events to networking with our associates.

Alumni Spotlights

Alexander Forger

Alexander Forger joined Milbank (and Tweed, Hadley & McCloy...) in 1950 after graduating from Yale Law School—and after earning a Bronze Star as a US Army machine-gunner during World War Two. Alex became a partner in 1958 and went on to become the firm’s Chairman from 1984-1992. After retiring from Milbank, he continued his legal advocacy work with several organizations while also serving in various fiduciary roles. Alex spoke with us recently from his home in Westchester.

Tim Mackey

Tim Mackey is the Chief Legal Officer and Group Compliance Officer at SoftBank Group Corp., the Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed investment holding company with over $160bn invested in telecommunications, internet services, AI, smart robotics, IoT and clean energy technology providers, including the SoftBank Vision Funds and SoftBank Latin America Funds (Vision Funds), and a range of Japanese domestic companies. He was a Milbank associate from 2005-2014, spending time in our Tokyo and Singapore offices. We recently spoke with Tim about his role at SoftBank Group and his experience at Milbank.

From 2010 to 2012, I worked in the Singapore office, where we did several Indonesian IPOs and a range of corporate and structured financing work, as well as M&A transactions. I worried that I was too much of a generalist – turns out it was exactly the right preparation for the role of CLO of a company like SoftBank Group.

Amina Akram

From lawyer to entrepreneur – learn more about Milbank alum Amina Akram’s path from Milbank litigation associate to becoming the Founder & CEO of Ouraan (which means to “soar high” in Urdu). Ouraan is a subscription book club for children of parents who aspire to have deeper relationships and more meaningful conversations with their children through books.

I’m incredibly lucky to have mentors both in my personal and professional life who guide and support me through highs and lows, challenge and affirm my ideas, and give me much-needed objective perspective.

Brad Dillon

An associate in Milbank’s Trusts & Estates Group from 2010 through 2014, Brad continued his trusts and estates work at Brown Brothers Harriman, where he is now a Senior Vice President in their Private Banking division. Brad spoke with partner David Stoll, who co-chairs our Pride affinity group, about his career, including his growing practice advising LGBT individuals on their estate planning concerns.

Glenn Gerstell

Glenn Gerstell will be the first to tell you that he has enjoyed exceptionally fortunate timing throughout his career. But as he reflects on almost four decades of wide-ranging accomplishments at Milbank, and his current role as General Counsel of the National Security Agency (NSA), it’s clear that Glenn has always had a talent for anticipating trends – and preparing himself for challenges – in order to end up in the right place at the right time.

I’m incredibly lucky to have had a rich, rewarding Milbank career for 39 years and then to get to follow up with another equally fascinating opportunity to do public service.

Kimberly Banks MacKay

Kimberly Banks MacKay, Head of US Legal for Novartis Business Services, was a corporate finance associate at Milbank early in her legal career. She has gone on to increasingly prominent roles in-house, and recently caught up with our Diversity Committee Chair Jerome McCluskey.

People who are really successful in law firms like Milbank understand how to drive change and move the business forward. As we in the legal profession look to define the law firm model of tomorrow, managing through change is really critical to the success of firms as well as the individuals within them.
