Mr. Marks discussed how business cycles impact M&A valuations, common mistakes during the M&A valuation process such as insufficient diligence and overconfidence, and how to avoid cultural blind spots when companies are trying to merge. He noted, “Being less blind to a deal’s downsides helps not just in having confidence in what you're buying, but in having appropriate confidence, so your valuation has a greater chance of being accurate.”
