David Paterson is an associate in the Singapore office of Milbank LLP and is a member of the firm's Transportation and Space Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

David acts for financiers, equity investors, leasing companies, operators and export credit agencies primarily on aircraft backed international finance and leasing transactions. He also advises on acquisitions and disposals of assets and asset portfolios.

His experience encompasses a variety of leveraged debt, capital markets and leasing transactions and includes pre-delivery financings, Japanese operating leases, French tax leases, Islamic financings and transactions involving export credit agencies.

As well as advising on the structuring and execution of such transactions, he also has recent experience of advising lenders, finance lessors and operating lessors on restructurings both of airlines and leasing companies.

David was recently seconded to a large international aviation leasing company based in Ireland.

His experience includes advising:

  • SMBC Aviation Capital on its US$6.7bn acquisition of Goshawk Management Limited.
  • Castlelake on a US$260,000,000 secured limited and full recourse financing with BNPP and ANZ in respect to a four (4) Boeing 787 Aircraft sale and leaseback transaction with Scoot Pte. Limited.
  • MUFG on a US$82,000,000 JOL secured limited recourse financing of 2 x A321-200NX Aircraft on lease to Wizz Air Hungary.
  • Altavair on its US$160,000,000 acquisition of six (6) Boeing 777-200LR aircraft from Quail, financed by DLIC and on lease to Qatar Airways.
  • Muzinich & Co in respect of finance leases for two (2) Boeing 737 aircraft with the TUI Airlines.
  • an international lessor in respect to the financing and delivery of four (4) A321Neo aircraft to THY, pursuant to a French tax lease structure.
  • Vmo Aircraft Leasing on its acquisition of one (1) A350-900 Aircraft on lease to Asiana.
  • numerous other international leasing companies on high value and large-scale leasing transactions and portfolio acquisitions.
  • major international financial institutions on their provision of debt financing to both lessors and airlines.
