As part of Milbank’s London office’s Diversity Week, the London Diversity & Inclusion Committee is hosting multiple activities to promote diversity and encourage conversations about fighting against social injustice. The upcoming events and initiatives include:
- A discussion with Jose Perez, LatinoJustice PRLDEF’s legal director and lead lawyer on Tuesday, September 22. Once known as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense & Education Fund (“PRLDEF”), LatinoJustice PRLDEF is an organization that advocates for the civil rights of hundreds of the greater pan-Latino diaspora living in the US and Puerto Rico. Speakers will discuss discrimination in the US and the issues faced by the Latino community, and explore civil rights, immigration and policing issues that are applicable across the globe. The discussion will also feature Milbank associate Courtney Brown, who is working with a Milbank team and LatinoJustice PRLDEF to prosecute a police racial profiling case in which Latino residents were discriminatorily targeted for police traffic stops, and in some cases robbed, by a former police sergeant.
- A lunchtime discussion with speaker Hashi Mohamed on Wednesday, September 23. Mr. Mohamed is a leading junior barrister, BBC broadcaster and author of the book People Like Us: What it Takes to Make it in Modern Britain, which discusses the intractability of social immobility in Great Britain. He practices in public law with a specific focus on environmental law, and is a frequent contributor to The Times, The Sunday Times, The Financial Times, and The Guardian.
- A Diversity Week Pub Quiz on Thursday, September 24, an annual Diversity Week tradition gone virtual.
This year’s Diversity Week also features a photo contest, “How Milbankers Made 2020 Work,” which will spotlight photo submissions from Milbank staff.
