Kamal Nesfield, a partner in Milbank LLP’s Leveraged Finance Group in New York, was named to the 2022 Bloomberg Law “They’ve Got Next: The 40 Under 40” list, which recognizes the accomplishments of stellar young lawyers nationwide. The 40 honorees represent “the best of the future of the legal profession.”

Mr. Nesfield represents investment banks, direct lenders and other financial institutions in a wide variety of leveraged finance transactions, with a particular focus on cross-border deals and acquisition financings. He also advises corporate borrowers, issuers, lead arrangers, private capital and other alternative financing providers on large-cap syndicated loans, middle market loans and direct lending transactions.

“I am honored and delighted to be named among the Bloomberg Law 40 Under 40,” said Mr. Nesfield. “As a partner in Milbank’s premier leveraged finance practice, I have an opportunity to represent the world’s most innovative banks. It’s deeply rewarding to promote and protect my clients’ interests while also taking an active role in recruiting and diversity matters at the firm and in my community.”

A former football player at the University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Nesfield is a member of the Penn Champions Club and has provided pro bono counsel to In the Midst, an organization that helps foster the academic success of low-income and underprivileged student-athletes. He also is involved at his alma mater, Howard University School of Law, leading recruiting efforts and participating in student group mentorship programs. As a member of 1844, an organization comprising Black male lawyers who practice primarily in prominent New York law firms and investment banks, Mr. Nesfield helps to provide a support system for members while fostering the next generation of Black lawyers.

Mr. Nesfield was featured in the 2022 Black In-House Counsel (BIHC) Annual Report and spoke at the BIHC’s “Elevating Black Excellence Summit,” a full-day virtual event that showcased the talents of Black attorneys before an audience of influential in-house counsel. He recently presented “Understanding the Credit Agreement,” at the Loan Syndications and Trading Association’s (LSTA) Summer Series program.

The Bloomberg Law 40 Under 40 selection process includes a review of each nominee’s biggest wins for clients; how they are executing in the leadership roles they have undertaken; and their ability to balance their legal work with pro bono service and community involvement.
