Milbank LLP International Arbitration partner Viren Mascarenhas will speak on a panel titled “It’s Not Easy Being Green: The Cost of Doing ESG Business” on October 18, 2023.
The panelists will discuss the financial impact of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) claims on corporates, in-house considerations and concerns related to ESG risks, and a US perspective on the European Union (EU) ESG Directive, audit rights, public interest litigation and antitrust claims.
Mr. Mascarenhas specializes in international arbitration (construction, commercial, and investor-state arbitration). He also draws on his experience working at the International Court of Justice and at the Special Court for Sierra Leone to advise companies on business and human rights and ESG issues, including conducting human rights due diligence for clients; advising clients on their reporting and compliance obligations under various human rights laws; and conducting ESG/BHR due diligence as part of M&A and private equity transactions.
