Lithium has become a crucial resource for fighting climate change but also raises a host of different issues, including environmental concerns and local community issues. "There are these competing policy objectives that are at play here, that are throwing things into a mess. And messes give rise to disputes," said Mr. Mascarenhas, whose practice includes representing energy and mining companies as well as state-owned entities and governments in the investment treaty, commercial, and construction arbitration space.
