Milbank Antitrust Partner James H. Weingarten: A Q&A with GCR

Share

James Weingarten recently joined Milbank LLP as a partner in the firm’s Global Antitrust and Competition group in Washington, DC. He was previously the Federal Trade Commission’s chief trial counsel. Mr. Weingarten spoke with Global Competition Review about leading the fight in the trenches in efforts against Microsoft/Activision, Kroger/Albertsons and Sanofi/Maze, and why he left the FTC to join Milbank.

“The people at Milbank impressed me a lot. Fiona Schaeffer – the head of our group here and the head of the American Bar Association’s antitrust law section – is a very impressive person,” said Mr. Weingarten. “She has built a group here at Milbank with people whom I knew by reputation were extremely well-respected, very smart and just good people.” He added that, “as a trial lawyer, Milbank was a good fit because they are ready, willing, and able to try cases.”

Mr. Weingarten is a seasoned trial lawyer who has served as first chair trial counsel and lead counsel in federal courts and federal agency administrative proceedings. He has significant experience in antitrust matters, both conduct and merger related, including most recently serving as first chair trial counsel representing the FTC in federal court and administrative proceedings challenging anticompetitive mergers and conduct.
