Mr. Melton specializes in global risk and national security matters, providing comprehensive legal guidance to a diverse array of clients, including global companies, sovereign wealth funds, and institutional investors. His experience encompasses compliance with US regulatory frameworks governing cross-border investments and business activities. Mr. Melton advises on a range of critical issues, including US economic sanctions enforced by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), export control regulations such as the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), as well as national security reviews conducted by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and other related authorities.
In addition to his regulatory work, Mr. Melton represents clients in transactional matters, helping them navigate complex enforcement issues and compliance challenges associated with foreign direct investment, national security, and international trade. He works closely with various stakeholders, including investment banks, private equity firms and corporations in sectors such as aerospace, telecommunications and energy. His services extend to transaction reviews, financial restructurings, mergers and acquisitions and strategic corporate activities, ensuring that clients are equipped to manage legal risks while pursuing their global business objectives.
Recognition & Accomplishments
Mr. Melton earned his J.D. from Georgetown Law, where he was an editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Law, and his B.A., with honors, in Political Science from the Virginia Military Institute. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Melton served as an infantry officer in the US Army and was deployed to the Middle East.
