Anthony Perez Cassino, Pro Bono Counsel with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP, accepted an award on behalf of the firm at The Door’s Joining in Justice reception in New York on April 25.

The Door, whose mission is to empower young people to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment, assists undocumented and other at-risk youth with matters including immigration, family law, housing and public benefits. The Joining in Justice reception focused on the organization’s efforts on behalf of immigrant youth, who face an increasingly challenging environment in the US, and for whom effective legal counsel is more essential than ever. Since partnering with The Door on pro bono matters in 2006, Milbank has donated thousands of hours to assisting these clients, taking on more than 125 Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to hear from a young client who escaped gangs and abuse in his native Honduras and obtained his green card in the US with the help of The Door’s legal team. He is now exploring schools through the organization’s College Paths program and working in construction.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by The Door, whose mission aligns with Milbank’s ongoing commitment to serving young people who have been disadvantaged,” said Mr. Cassino. “We’re proud of our relationship with this organization that does such important work for a vulnerable population. From our newest associates to senior partners, our attorneys find this work particularly meaningful and are always eager to get involved.”
