Milbank Provides Pro Bono Support to Non-Profit Music & Memory

Milbank LLP is pleased to announce it has guided non-profit Music & Memory through the implementation of a strategic alliance with the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (“IMNF”). The alliance was facilitated through Milbank’s partnership with New York Lawyers Alliance (“Lawyers Alliance”), an organization that provides business and transactional legal services to non-profits and social enterprises driving an impact in New York City communities.

Music & Memory is a non-profit organization that harnesses the power of personalized music to help individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia and other cognitive and physical conditions to engage with their world. It trains caregivers and nursing home staff to create personalized playlists for the elderly and infirm using digital audio technology. The organization sought a strategic alliance with IMNF to collaborate on new initiatives, harmonize resources and further their shared mission of emotional healing and neurologic support through music.

Through its partnership with Lawyers Alliance, Milbank drafted and negotiated the strategic alliance between Music & Memory and IMNF. The firm’s engagement included conducting due diligence and drafting the strategic alliance agreement between the two parties. Music & Memory and IMNF formally announced their partnership on February 9, 2022.

"It was a pleasure working with the Music & Memory team. We wish them much success in their successful strategic alliance with IMNF," said Alex Shapos.

"Music & Memory and IMNF are doing great things for people living with dementia, and we are proud to have played a small role in helping them achieve their goal of allowing their patients to engage with the world through the use of personalized music," said John Franchini.

The Milbank pro bono team included associate Alexander Shapos and partners John D. Franchini and Max A. Goodman and associate James Beebe.
