For 2023, he expects that firms will continue to rebuild their cultures in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic’s ongoing disruptions. At Milbank, that means preparing for larger cases that are already scheduled on court dockets, and remaining on standby for legal efforts where lawyers’ aid is needed promptly, without much notice. The firm also plans to work on housing eviction matters, where it is easier to anticipate the budgeting of staff time and resources.
"I'm looking to connect with everybody and ensure that the [pro bono] culture is strong," said Mr. Cassino. The firm’s pro bono initiatives remained robust in 2022, with the firm ranking among the top 20 in The American Lawyer’s 2022 Pro Bono Scorecard.
