Milbank partner Tim Peterson received the 2021 Andrew Lee Jones Award at the Amicus “Champions of Justice Gala,” held virtually on December 2. Milbank also was shortlisted for the 2021 Champion Law Firm Award.
Tim was recognized by Amicus for going “beyond expectations with his subtle leadership within his firm, leading by example and demonstrating what it means to commit to pro bono work,” as well as for his “support for the charity, not just financially, but wholeheartedly supporting the charity in many ways."
Amicus is a London-based charity that provides support for death penalty cases in the United States. A non-political organization, Amicus does not advocate a position on capital punishment but believes that those on death row deserve proper counsel and better access to justice.
Milbank has built a long-standing relationship with Amicus. Since 2015, the firm has supported the organization with litigation documentation discovery and review involving numerous death row cases. More than 200 partners, special counsel, associates, paralegals and staff from across Milbank’s offices in Europe, the United States, Latin America and Asia have dedicated nearly 6,500 pro bono hours to the effort.
For three decades, Milbank has supported pro bono initiatives focused on correcting injustices in the criminal justice system. The firm has contributed more than one million hours on matters that include ending human rights abuses; promoting racial equity, civil and voting rights, reproductive rights and LGBTQ rights; advocating for immigrants; protecting survivors of domestic abuse and gender-based violence; and assisting not-for-profits that protect the environment and animal rights.
