Milbank LLP partner Lawrence (Larry) Wee was honored with a Courage Award at Asian American Foundation’s (AAF) 2026 Impact Awards on April 22, 2026 in New York City. The awards ceremony honored the courage and leadership of Asian Americans who have made an impact on lives and communities.

The Courage Awardees were Justin Go and his pro bono legal team, which included Larry, Judge Marilyn Go and Jennifer Wu, for their work pursuing justice for Justin’s daughter, Michelle Alyssa Go. Michelle was tragically pushed to her death in front of an oncoming R subway train in Times Square on January 15, 2022. The perpetrator had been in and out of mental health facilities for over 20 years and had an extensive criminal record but was experiencing homelessness at the time of the attack. In response to Michelle’s death, Justin has advocated for the Michelle Alyssa Go Act, which aims to strengthen mental health infrastructure to prevent future tragedies and ensure those suffering mental illness do not fall through the cracks. The pro bono legal team was recognized for their outstanding pro bono service and commitment to seeking justice to victims of anti-Asian hate.

The annual event brings together respected business executives, creative leaders, donors, media, elected officials and organizations, in support of AAF’s mission.

Larry, who focuses on a variety of restructuring, liability management, capital markets and finance transactions and securities regulation, has been recognized by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers of 2026 and 2023, and by The Legal 500 as a leading capital markets lawyer. Larry, along with the firm, was also recognized for his transactional pro bono service by Pro Bono Partnership in 2025.
