NEW YORK, July 3, 2012 – Lawrence Kass, a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, was honored last week by the Federal Circuit Bar Association (FCBA) with their most prestigious committee leader recognition award, “The George Hutchinson Award”. The award recognized Lawrence and his co-chair of the FCBA’s Veterans Appeals Committee, Dion Messer of Limelight Networks, Inc., for their strong leadership of the committee and its significant achievements over the past year.
The Veterans Appeals Committee established and administers the FCBA’s Veterans Pro Bono Program, working to identify and screen appeals filed pro se with the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and, for appropriate appeals, secure pro bono counsel from among FCBA interested attorneys. In addition, the committee works to establish and build connections with other Veterans Law Committees from other bar associations, as well as monitor developments and offer educational programs with respect to veterans law within both the judiciary and legislature.
Lawrence and Dion served as chairs of the committee for the past two years, and also served as the committee’s vice-chairs for two years prior.
