Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP ranked sixth among Am Law 200 firms with regard to job satisfaction for mid-level associates on The American Lawyer’s annual survey of third-, fourth-, and fifth-year associates at major US law firms.
The 2018 survey reflects associate satisfaction across several areas, including compensation and benefits; training and guidance; relations with partners and other associates; interest and satisfaction level with the work; the firm’s policy on billable hours; and management’s openness about firm strategies and partnership opportunities.
“One of the most important investments we can make is in our associates,” said Chairman Scott A. Edelman. “From bespoke training programs that benefit associates at every stage of their careers to leading in compensation, Milbank’s ranking is a testament to our continued commitment to attract and retain top talent.”
Milbank’s ranking reflects the firm’s market-leading approach to training and professional development, rewarding and mentoring talent, access to complex client and pro bono work, transparency and positive culture. The firm has also placed on Am Law’s annual A-List of elite firms for over a decade. The A-List measures associate satisfaction along with firm profitability, diversity, and pro bono work.
The firm recently announced its Deals@Milbank training program designed for transactional attorneys, where associates participate in hands-on workshops and one-on-one coaching. The transactional training offering builds on the Advocacy@Milbank program for litigators and the Milbank@Harvard program for all mid-level associates, a rigorous curriculum, currently in its seventh year, that is unmatched by any professional development program offered by a major law firm.
“Being recognized by our associates as a top place to work is very important to us and we will continue to offer unprecedented growth opportunities for the benefit of our clients and our lawyers,” added Mr. Edelman.
About the Survey
The Midlevel Associates Survey is conducted by ALM Intelligence on behalf of The American Lawyer. Am Law 200 and Global 100 firms were invited to participate in the survey. This year, Am Law received responses from 5,270 mid-level associates, and ranked 102 firms. Associates rated their firms on a 5-point scale, with 1 being the lowest possible score (very dissatisfied) and 5 the highest (very satisfied).
