Milbank Joins Law Firm Antiracism Alliance

Share

Milbank LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has joined the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (“LFAA”), a newly launched coalition of law firms coming together to tackle and dismantle systemic racism, both in the law and in government institutions.

Recognizing the need for the private bar to use its knowledge and position to increase access to justice and make the legal system equitable for all, LFAA aims to create lasting change through industry-wide collective action. The coalition will facilitate both urgent and long-term pro bono projects identified by affected communities, organizers, legal aid partners and policy experts. LFAA firms also recognize the need to promote diversity and elevate the voices of people of color within their own firms and have reaffirmed their commitment to examining and eliminating internal practices that may perpetuate racial inequities.

Among the alliance’s immediate priorities, LFAA will host a virtual summit in Summer 2020 to develop a strategic focus and plan for a broader Fall 2020 summit, bringing together firm leaders, diversity and inclusion professionals and pro bono professionals. These summits will aim to create a Systemic Racism Legal Inventory, a catalog designed to inform legislative and regulatory advocacy strategies and litigation efforts to effect change in outcomes for people of color.

“At Milbank, we recognize that the acknowledgement of racism and social injustice is not enough – it must be accompanied by meaningful action,” said Milbank Chairman Scott Edelman. “We are committed to making a difference and are proud to join together with other firms in LFAA to identify and actively dismantle systemic racism in the law, in government institutions, and within our own organization.”
