Milbank LLP Global Project, Energy & Infrastructure partner John Dewar recently acted as Contributing Editor for the International Comparative Legal Guide – Mining Law 2024 published by Global Legal Group. Additionally, John and Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance senior associate Emily Whittaker co-authored the United Kingdom chapter.
The chapter covers common issues in mining laws and regulations – including the acquisition of rights, ownership requirements and restrictions, processing, transfer and encumbrance, environmental aspects, native title and land rights.
John Dewar noted that “in the context of the ongoing Energy Transition, mining projects have become an increasingly important focus as miners push ahead with final investment decisions to enable the development of projects focused on the production of battery minerals such as cobalt, lithium, graphite and rare earth metals which are key to enabling the realization of Net Zero and a Zero Carbon Economy.”
