John Franchini, Practice Group Leader for the Global Corporate Group in New York, was profiled in Acumen, the magazine of the College of Arts and Sciences at Lehigh University. The profile, which chronicles his time at his alma mater, describes his experiences as a sociology major taking International Relations classes and Law 101, which Mr. Franchini notes was “one of my most challenging classes, but also one of the most interesting. [The professor’s] method of teaching and learning sparked an interest that was pivotal in my decision to pursue a career in law. I liked the way he taught us to think and express ourselves.”

Mr. Franchini’s interest in international relations inspired him to study abroad with Lehigh in Leysin, Switzerland. He later enrolled at Fordham Law School, where a unique opportunity provided by the World Bank and an international law firm allowed him to study the Czech economy’s transformation. During law school, Mr. Franchini also held internships at the United Nations and the European Union.

As a global corporate lawyer, Mr. Franchini has completed transactions throughout Asia, Latin America and the United States. “I spend a lot of time on transactions involving power, energy and infrastructure assets, such as roads, ports, airports, wind and solar power projects and natural gas projects,” he says. “I love the cross-border nature of my work and enjoy doing deals with people from all over the globe.”
