About Milbank@Harvard

Investing in you

You can judge a law firm by assessing what resources it’s willing to devote to your professional development. At Milbank, we want exceptional lawyers, so the training and development we provide is equally exceptional. Whether you’re a summer associate or a current Milbank attorney, we’re laying the foundation for the next important stage of your career by offering the best-in-class resources you need to succeed at the very highest levels.

We’re proud to offer Milbank@Harvard, a first-of-its kind program we developed in partnership with one of the world’s leading academic institutions. Designed to meet the professional development needs of mid-level associates, Milbank@Harvard provides intensive training in legal skills along with essential perspectives on business and finance. Beginning in your third year, and over four consecutive years, each associate from every Milbank office worldwide is sent to Cambridge, Massachusetts for this week-long program, taught on campus by Harvard Business School and Law School faculty with the assistance of Milbank partners. By your seventh year as a Milbank associate, you will have completed a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that is unmatched by any professional development program offered by a major law firm.

Associate Perspectives

Investing in associates’ development

“[Milbank@Harvard] makes you see how Milbank values its associates and the amount of investment they’ve put in our training, not just on the legal side, but on the management side, on the softer skills that you don't normally associate with lawyers.” Felicia Hanson Ofori-Quaah – Global Project, Energy & Infrastructure Finance, London

Thinking like the client

“I spend a lot more time now focused on reading about my clients and their jurisdictions – like when is the next election in that particular country – so we can pre-empt the types of issues that they may encounter and be less reactive and more proactive, so that at all times the client feels we are value-add.” Munib Hussain – Global Project, Energy & Infrastructure Finance, London

Building client relationships

“To be a great attorney, you have to focus on both sides of the legal work – the technical aspect but also the client-service portion.Broderick Henry – Global Corporate, New York, NY

Fostering cross-border relationships

“[Milbank@Harvard] is a huge boost for morale. It fosters collaboration and you get to know people across offices… I always come away reinvigorated. You make goals about what you want to do with your practice going forward. I think it’s an excellent check-in every year that reminds you of why you’re at Milbank.” Erin Culbertson – Litigation & Arbitration, Washington, DC

Training that evolves my practice

“The modules have progressed and evolved along with me as my practice has evolved. The main takeaways have been developing leadership skills as I am now in a more senior role in my job and learning how to more effectively manage… as well as putting myself in the shoes of my client…and how to identify, frame and resolve issues, which has been very helpful.” Spencer Pepper – Leveraged Finance, New York
