Conrad Marinkovic is an associate in the London office of Milbank LLP and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group. Conrad has significant experience of complex commercial litigation, including international civil fraud matters, and international arbitration. Conrad also has experience of large, complex regulatory investigations, including concerning competition/antitrust issues and market abuse, and contentious insolvency and restructuring matters.

Primary Focus & Experience

Key experience includes:

  • Acting for a defendant in relation to an international civil fraud matter which was recognised for its significance by The Lawyer .  The case concerned an alleged asset management fraud in the sum of over US$300m and related to numerous jurisdictions including Switzerland and the BVI.
  • Assisting an investment firm with an investigation into a fraud perpetrated against them in relation to their acquisition of an international group of companies in the engineering services sector.
  • Acting for a leading international bank in defending claims of unlawful means conspiracy arising out of the acquisition of a Ugandan banking business.
  • Advising on breach of trust proceedings and unfair prejudice proceedings across various offshore jurisdictions.
  • Acting for claimants in High Court proceedings relating to a US$50m ship financing fraud, including obtaining interim asset freezing and disclosure relief, and taking steps to enforce a substantial money judgment in various jurisdictions. Acting for claimants in respect of a shipping fraud and the pursuit of related asset relief.
  • Acting for an international financial sector firm in relation to investigations by regulatory authorities in multiple jurisdictions concerning antitrust/competition law and market conduct issues.
  • Acting for a steering committee of secured bondholders in relation to a restructuring plan concerning an energy business.
  • Acting for a sustainable investments firm in relation to certain breaches by an investment counterparty of restrictive covenants and advising on related securities buybacks.
  • Acting for a multinational Middle Eastern group in a DIFC LCIA arbitration concerning claims under a joint venture’s shareholders’ agreement.
  • Acting for a group of Lenders in relation to ICC arbitration proceedings concerning the non-payment of tolling fees amounting to more than US$500 million on an LNG plant in Egypt.   

Recognition & Accomplishments

  • Conrad has been recognised in The Legal 500 as “one to watch, a future star” within Milbank London’s Commercial Litigation practice, and a “Key Lawyer” for Civil Fraud who is “active at the more junior level, developing a strong international disputes practice.”
  • Conrad has co-authored a number of articles on various subjects relating to Commercial Litigation, including contributing to Lexology In-Depth’s “Technology Disputes” Chapter on an annual basis in recent years.
