Chris Gaspar is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group, with a focus on intellectual property.
Primary Focus & Experience
Mr. Gaspar’s intellectual property litigation and counseling practice includes a wide range of technologies and products in the electrical, semiconductor, computer, financial-services, and medical-device fields. He has considerable experience in every substantial aspect of US district court, appellate court, International Trade Commission, and state court practice in intellectual property litigation, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks. He has served as lead counsel to industry-leading companies, as well as small start-ups.
As an attorney registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Gaspar has written and prosecuted patent applications for a wide variety of technologies including grid computing, digital-signal processing, and memory mapping and optimization techniques. He also has negotiated and prepared numerous license agreements for intellectual property, and counsels clients on a wide array of intellectual property issues arising in M&A and financial-restructuring transactions. He also has obtained copyrights and trademarks, and counseled on protection of trade secrets, in a wide variety of industries.
Mr. Gaspar is an active member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the New York Intellectual Property Law Association. Before law school, Mr. Gaspar was an engineer for Boeing Commercial Airplanes designing flight-control and autopilot computer systems for the 777.

Mr. Gaspar is a frequent lecturer on IP and patent law, including invited speeches for the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Intellectual Property Owners Association, Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the US Patent and Trademark Office, and others. His articles have been published in the American Intellectual Property Law Quarterly Journal, New York Law Journal, Intellectual Property Today, and elsewhere.
