Milbank LLP’s Singapore-based Transportation and Space partner Paul Ng was a speaker at the 11th Cape Town Convention (CTC) Academic Project, held September 13–14 at the University of Cambridge.
The conference is a leading event for the study of CTC, one of the most important international treaties on aircraft financing. Attended by professors, scholars and the leading practicing lawyers, judges and government officials active in the aviation sector, the program explored the topical issues of the day pertaining to international treaties affecting the aviation sector and in particular CTC and its Protocols.
Mr. Ng discussed the impact of the recent sanctions imposed as a result of the conflict in Ukraine on contractual relations for the leasing of aircraft between international parties.
Ratified by over 60 countries world-wide, CTC aims to enhance and harmonize the laws between countries in the recognition of rights related to the financing, leasing and sale of aircraft, aircraft engines and helicopters. The treaty has been instrumental in furthering the expansion of the aviation industry by allowing players in member states to access capital to invest in aviation that would otherwise not be available to and in those countries.
