Milbank LLP’s Supreme Court and Appellate practice recently hosted an event titled “Supreme Court Review: Reflections on the Past Term and a Look Ahead” as part of Milbank’s Litigation Group Speaker Series.

Partners Neal Katyal and Colleen Roh Sinzdak discussed major decisions from the Supreme Court’s recent term in a panel moderated by comedian and actor John Mulaney. They drew on their own experiences before the Court, including the landmark case they successfully argued this term, Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump, in which the Supreme Court struck down the President’s sweeping tariffs in a 6–3 decision.

Mr. Katyal focuses on appellate and complex litigation, with extensive experience across a wide range of federal and state law matters. He is one of a few living individuals to have argued more than 50 cases before the Supreme Court of the United States. A 2023 study found that Mr. Katyal had argued more Supreme Court cases than anyone else, save one person, in the preceding six years, and a 2024 study found him to be one of the two most successful petitioners before the Supreme Court at any law firm in the country. Mr. Katyal was named “Appellate Litigator of the Year” by Benchmark Litigation in 2026, in addition to the firm’s recognition as “Appellate Firm of the Year.”

Ms. Sinzdak specializes in appellate and complex litigation. She has argued 11 cases before the Supreme Court and has worked on major Supreme Court cases at Milbank, including VOS Selections v. Trump (the tariffs case) and Wolford v. Lopez (the defense of a Hawaii gun law against a Second Amendment challenge). She also spent six years in the Solicitor General’s Office, where she represented the United States before the Supreme Court and managed the United States’ litigation strategy before the courts of appeals and in major cases headed for the Supreme Court.
