Milbank’s Benjamin Sayagh and Matthew Brod Recognized at Euromoney’s LMG Rising Stars Awards Americas 2020

Milbank LLP Leveraged Finance partner Benjamin Sayagh and Financial Restructuring partner Matthew Brod were named rising stars at Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2020 Rising Stars Awards Americas.

The awards, which celebrate outstanding up-and-coming legal practitioners for their professional accomplishments and advocacy skills in their respective practice area, are given to leaders across the Americas. Nominee and winner selection was based on directory and survey analyses, and on research interviews in which key practitioners across jurisdictions and areas of law discussed their peers’ accomplishments.

Benjamin Sayagh received a Rising Star award in the Banking and Finance category. Mr. Sayagh has significant experience representing clients on complex cross-border and domestic acquisition financings, first and second lien financings, bridge lending, loan commitments, refinancing and recapitalization transactions and other secured and unsecured lending transactions. He represents and advises the most prominent financial institutions and debt funds, including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, JPMorgan, HSBC, Barclays, Citibank, Oak Hill Advisors and others. Mr. Sayagh has worked with Milbank’s leveraged finance team on prominent acquisition financing transactions, including, most recently, the financing sources for: Aspen Dental’s acquisition of ClearChoice Dental, The Carlyle Group’s acquisition of Cepsa, and Blackstone’s separate acquisitions of MagicLab, Therma Holdings, RE Tech and Precision Medicine Group. 

Matthew Brod received a Rising Star award in the Restructuring and Insolvency category. In transactions that span a wide array of industries, including energy, shipping, healthcare, retail, airline, technology, financial services, pharmaceuticals, and satellite, Mr. Brod represents debtors and creditors in chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings. He also represents hedge funds and other financial institutions acquiring control positions in financially distressed companies. Some of his most recent engagements include his representation of the official committee of unsecured creditors in the Intelsat chapter 11 cases, the ad hoc committee of first lien lenders in the UTEX Industries chapter 11 cases, the ad hoc committee of legacy noteholders in the Noble chapter 11 cases, the ad hoc committee of term loan lenders and IPCo noteholders in the J.Crew chapter 11 cases, the ad hoc committee of second lien lenders in the NPC chapter 11 cases, and the ad hoc committee of crossholder noteholders in the Hexion chapter 11 cases.
