Europe Emerging Energy Deal of the Year: Northvolt
Milbank acted for the second lien lenders led by PFA and Danica in the USD 1.6 billion project financing for the construction of Northvolt AB’s electric car battery manufacturing project in Skellefteå, Sweden. The plant is one of Sweden’s biggest industrial projects in decades and is Europe’s biggest lithium-ion battery plant. The plant initially will provide 16 GWh of cell manufacturing capacity and will eventually reach a capacity of at least 32 GW. The project has itself been instigated by ex-TESLA executives to form a key part of the European drive towards environmental sustainability and to aid Europe in becoming self-sustaining in its production of batteries for electric vehicles.
The Proximo EMEA Deal of the Year Awards recognise notable transactions across the region in the infrastructure and energy sectors. Winners are selected based on input from the publication and peer firms across various sectors and regions.
This recognition follows an extremely successful Proximo Americas awards ceremony in March 2021, where our Americas teams were awarded seven “Deal of the Year” awards and were named “North America Legal Advisor of the Year” and “Latin America Legal Advisor of the Year.”
