Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, led by Global Securities partner Arnold Peinado, acted as special New York counsel to Goldman, Sachs & Co. in connection with a $300 million offering of 8.50% senior notes due 2019 by Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (“Virgin Australia”).

Virgin Australia expects to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes and to meet future US dollar financing obligations.

This was Virgin Australia’s first issuance of high yield notes in the capital markets. The company issued $797 million in enhanced equipment notes in October 2013.

Virgin Australia is Australia’s second largest airline after Qantas and it has the largest fleet of any airline carrying the Virgin brand.

Other Milbank attorneys involved in the offering included Tax partner Andrew Walker, Global Securities associates Jessica Cunningham, Meredith Hines and Lyndon Plothow and Tax associate Erika Hauser.
