Milbank LLP Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance partner Jenna McGrath has been featured as a Law360 Energy MVP for 2025, one of just five practitioners recognized in the category.
In an interview with Law360, Jenna reflects on how she became an energy regulatory attorney, challenges and opportunities in the past year and her advice to younger attorneys. She discusses how rapidly energy and infrastructure projects have grown in size and complexity, noting, "if you told me five years ago about the magnitude, in terms of dollars and megawatts, of some of the projects I'm touching, it would have seemed outrageous."
The article highlights her role as regulatory counsel for landmark digital infrastructure transactions, including Switch’s $4.5 billion project debt financing to support the development of a fully leased hyperscale facility in Nevada and AustralianSuper’s $1.5 billion investment in DataBank. Milbank has had the lead legal role in over $125 billion of digital focused transactions in 2025—including several of the largest capital markets, project finance, real estate and M&A transactions to date—and Jenna served as regulatory counsel on many of these market-setting matters.
Underscoring the breadth and depth of Jenna’s practice, she also discusses her work for Missouri electricity cooperative Citizens Electric Corp. in the multiyear restructuring of its long-term power supply agreements and acquisition of $200 million worth of transmission assets—a matter that required litigating at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) while simultaneously negotiating settlement agreements.
Jenna also offers advice to junior attorneys, encouraging those starting out to find invested mentors and to have a willingness to learn new things—something that is especially critical in the energy regulatory space.
“It can be very challenging, and even boring at first, just learning all the terminology,” Jenna said. “But once you hit a certain learning curve, things get really, really interesting.”
