Milbank LLP Singapore-based partner Jacqueline Chan will speak on a panel discussion titled “Healing Businesses in a New World: Problems, Opportunities and Solutions” at the Singapore (SG) Courts “Conversations with the Community” event on March 27.

The session will examine several key issues impacting the global insolvency and restructuring terrain, including a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape that has seen an increasingly fragmented world and a resetting of globalization norms and free trade assumptions; an evolving regulatory environment and the use of sanctions to shape business decisions and conduct; and the growing concern over climate change and the progressively strident voice of environmental activism. The panelists will address whether the present architecture for resolving insolvencies is able to rise to the challenge, particularly in the context of the often-competing interests of debtors and creditors. The session will also explore the thesis that an effective regime is designed to facilitate entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as the comparative positions of a debtor-in-possession model and a creditor-driven model.

Ms. Chan will be joined by keynote speaker Justice Kannan Ramesh; moderator Professor Hans Tjio of the National University of Singapore; James Sprayregen, founder of Kirkland & Ellis’ worldwide Restructuring Group and former partner at Kirkland & Ellis; Manoj Sandrasegara, partner at WongPartnership LLP; Lim Lian Hoon, partner and Managing Director of Alix Partners; and Harold Foo, Deputy Director in the Policy Advisory Division at the Ministry of Law.

Regularly recognized as an exceptional leader and dealmaker by key industry publications, Ms. Chan advises on many of the most innovative, cutting-edge M&A, restructuring and corporate finance transactions in the Asia region. She was recently named “Lawyer of the Year” by The Best Lawyers 2024 in Insolvency and Reorganization Law in Singapore, an honor awarded to only a single lawyer in each practice area.
