Milbank Nominated for Four Awards for Excellence by Chambers USA

Financial Restructuring, Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance and Tax groups, as well as Litigation partner Antonia Apps, shortlisted for Chambers USA Awards 2018

Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP’s Financial Restructuring; Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance; and Tax groups have been shortlisted for the Chambers USA Awards 2018. Litigation partner Antonia Apps has also been shortlisted for White Collar Crime & Government Investigations. The Chambers USA Awards ceremony and dinner will be held in New York on May 24.

The Chambers USA Awards for Excellence honor the most preeminent law firms and attorneys in key practice areas based on the research conducted by Chambers and Partners for each edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. The awards reflect notable achievements over the past 12 months including outstanding work, impressive strategic growth and excellence in client service. Milbank has been shortlisted in the following categories for the 2018 edition:

  • Bankruptcy (team nomination): Milbank’s Financial Restructuring group is known globally for prominent corporate restructurings and complex chapter 11 cases. Milbank was recently selected as legal counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the FirstEnergy Solutions bankruptcy, one of the most widely anticipated chapter 11 cases of the year. Milbank was also selected as legal counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 case of M&G USA Corporation, which, together with its global affiliates, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of plastic products. Milbank also recently served as counsel to a Special Committee appointed by Westinghouse Electric Company LLC in connection with its chapter 11 filing, with reported assets in the amount of $4.329 billion and liabilities in the amount of $9.391 billion. The Milbank team also represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the chapter 11 cases of TK Holdings Inc. and its affiliated debtors, which, together with their global affiliates, is one of the world’s largest producers of automobile safety products.

  • Energy/Projects: Power including Renewables (team nomination): With more than 100 dedicated attorneys in the US, UK, Latin America and across Asia, Milbank’s Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance group is the leading choice for the financing and development of the world’s most critical and complex projects spanning an array of industries including renewables, oil and gas, petrochemicals, power and energy, infrastructure, transportation, and more. Milbank has recently handled a number of notable transactions including advising the international lenders in the project financing of Aela Energía’s Aurora project (129 MW) and Sarco project (170 MW), which will provide power to the equivalent of 460,000 households in Latin America. The firm also advised on the grounding breaking Norte III deal, advising on the acquisition, development and financing to revitalize a crucial power plant in Mexico. Milbank advised a group of institutional investors and commercial bank lenders in connection with the $1.1 billion Comprehensive Energy Management Project for Ohio State University, which will provide a comprehensive solution to modernize the heating, cooling and electricity systems for the University’s 485-building Columbus campus. As part of the 4G road infrastructure program in Colombia with projects valued at approximately $25 billion, Milbank advised on several infrastructure projects to develop toll roads.

  • Tax (team nomination): Milbank’s Tax group combines creativity and extensive market experience in the complete range of financial restructuring, financial and capital markets transactions and M&A with a commercial approach and relentless focus on client service.   • Litigation: White Collar Crime & Government Investigations – Antonia M. Apps (individual nomination): Ms. Apps is a former federal prosecutor and nationally recognized trial attorney with experience in criminal and civil matters. She represents financial institutions, corporations, and executives in SEC and other regulatory enforcement proceedings, white-collar criminal investigations, complex commercial litigation and internal investigations. Prior to joining Milbank, Ms. Apps served for more than seven years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Criminal Division, where she led many of the government’s highest-profile securities fraud and insider trading cases. She argued several appeals in the Second Circuit, including the landmark case of U.S. v. Newman, for which she was the lead prosecutor at trial and on appeal.
