Milbank Named “Law Firm of the Year” by Power Finance Risk Awards

In the latest recognition of its top-notch power and renewable energy practice, Milbank LLP was recognized as “Law Firm of the Year” by the Power Finance Risk Awards, announced on November 22, 2021. In addition, Milbank received four “Deal of the Year” awards for the firm’s work advising on market-leading power and energy transactions in the 2020 calendar year.

The Power Finance & Risk Awards recognize the most impressive renewable energy and power project sponsors, lenders, advisers, investors and transactions, selected based on in-depth research interviews with an unprecedented judging panel comprising 45 senior market participants from across project development, banking, law and investing.

Milbank transactions were honored in the following categories:

  • Transmission Deal of the Year – Western Spirit: Milbank represented Pattern Energy Group as sponsor in connection with the $1.76 billion financing for the Western Spirit transmission line and wind portfolio in New Mexico, cited as one of the largest renewable project financings in the US in 2020. 
  • Project Bond Deal of the Year – Clearway Energy Utah: Milbank represented the institutional investors and LC issuing bank in connection with the private placement financing and LC facility for Clearway Energy Utah Solar’s portfolio of seven solar projects.
  • Conventional Power Deal of the Year – CPV Three Rivers: Milbank represented the financing parties in connection with the financing for the CPV Three Rivers Energy Center, a gas-fired combined cycle power generation facility in northeastern Illinois, located in PJM. The transaction featured a bank tranche, fixed rate tranche and a 4(a)(2) private placement tranche.
  • Term Loan B Deal of the Year - Hamilton Projects Acquiror: Milbank represented the lead arrangers in connection with the $1 billion acquisition financing of the Panda Liberty and Patriot gas-fired power plants located in Pennsylvania, by a joint venture between Carlyle and EIG.
