Milbank LLP was recognized with top honors at the Legal 500 Mexico Awards 2026, which were presented at a gala held in Mexico City on April 16, 2026. The annual awards recognize excellence in the legal market, honoring the leading legal players who have contributed to the vibrancy of the Mexican market.
The firm was awarded “International Firm of the Year (Operating in to Mexico)” in addition to securing the “Banking and Finance Deal of the Year” award for its work advising on the $2.5 billion Energía Mayakan financing, which was also recently named “Americas Gas Deal of the Year” by Project Finance International. Milbank was also shortlisted for three “Banking and Finance Deal of the Year“ awards for its work on the $1.25 billion Cinépolis restructuring; the $2.5 billion America Móvil revolving credit facility; and the $6.2 billion Iberdrola Group acquisition financing.
Milbank advised the lenders on the Energía Mayakan financing, which was one of the largest financings in the region. The financing of ENGIE’s Mexican natural gas pipeline expansion project consisted of an approximately 698-kilometer natural gas pipeline in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, which will supply gas required for the operation of CFE’s two new combined cycle plants which together have a capacity of over 1.5 GW. The Milbank deal team was led by Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance partners Roland Estevez and Rhys Howard, along with associates Ana Bueno and Rafael Bresciani and international attorney Jeronimo Amenabar.
“We are incredibly honored to be recognized as the leading international firm for companies operating in Mexico – a true testament to our commitment to providing top-tier client service while delivering on the most complex financing deals in the region,“ said Marcelo Mottesi, chair of Milbank’s Corporate Finance and Securities Group and co-head of Milbank’s Latin America Practice Group.
