Transactional practice touted in Latin America region

Milbank has been named to Latin Lawyer’s 2017 “Latin Lawyer 250” list, which recognizes the leading international law firms doing business in Latin America. In its 19th edition, the “Latin Lawyer 250” continues to be the definitive guide to Latin America’s leading business law firms.

Latin Lawyer notes: “[B]y being diverse geographically as well as by practice area, Milbank is consistently one of the busiest international firms in the region. Milbank’s name in the Latin American project finance space is second to none. It has a large market share in Mexico, and has won an enviable portion of Colombia’s 4G work and is visible in Chilean renewables. Its capital markets offering is on a similar level, which counts several partners as some of the busiest in the region. Its banking and finance capabilities lead the team to restructuring work and the firm has grown its M&A offering across a range of industries. Latin Lawyer also notes that the firm has made significant inroads in Argentina with the new wave of debt and equity deals coming out of the country and that “the firm is at the forefront of cutting-edge financing structures whatever the project.”

“The team’s skills are not concentrated in one area; instead, partners move easily between the group’s core offerings, which underscores Milbank’s collaborate approach and means lawyers have multidisciplinary skill-set necessary for the high-value work Milbank favours. Clients appreciate the working style and are more likely to come to the firm for multiple, varied projects rather than one-off deals,” added Latin Lawyer.

“We are pleased to once again be named among the leading law firms in Latin America. With one of the longest tenures of any US law firm doing business in Latin America, Milbank has a long tradition of providing outstanding legal service to international businesses investing in the region and to Latin American companies. That experience has propelled us to have one of the leading practices in the region today,” said Dan Bartfeld, co-chair of the firm’s Latin America Group and Project, Finance, Energy and Infrastructure Group.

“Our corporate and finance expertise in Latin America has been built over many years of working with our valued clients and we are honored to partner with our clients on the most complex and cutting-edge transactions in the region,” added Marcelo Mottesi, co-chair of the firm’s Latin America Group and head of the firm’s Global Capital Markets Group.
