Milbank LLP is delighted to have continued to support the School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) cycle race from Lands’ End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) in its annual fundraising efforts by cycling 603 miles virtually to raise funds for the charity. The Milbank team was led by partner James Cameron and supported by Susie Dear, champion rower and co-captain of the world-renowned Leander Club.

Milbank LLP, through partner James Cameron, has supported SOHK over a number of years with pro bono legal advice. SOHK was established as a charity in 2012 and exists to empower and support both adults and children who are facing social inequality. Through the use of high-impact sport, tailored mentoring and by engendering an atmosphere of genuine acceptance, SOHK enables individuals to fully realise their potential. Working across the UK in England, Scotland and Wales, SOHK delivers life-changing programs and courses that have a long-term impact on participants’ mental and physical health.

James Cameron, partner, said: “We are proud of our long and strong relationship with School of Hard Knocks. It is a really well-run charity doing vital work, using sport as medium to promote social inclusion. We share their values of integration, respect and acceptance, along with the primary purpose of addressing inequality in a way that is real and changes the lives of so many adults and children every year."

Ken Cowen, CEO, School of Hard Knocks, said: “We’re pleased and so grateful to be working with the team at Milbank who put themselves through the mill last weekend as they took part in School of Hard Knocks LEJOG 2021. The event brought in an incredible £60,000 which will fund over 40 children who will be supported by our school's program for three years. Together we can further spread our powerful message of inclusion, respect and acceptance and it’s this attitude that strengthens Milbank’s culture, promoting integration and reinforces their business principles.”

Susie Dear, co-captain of the Leander Club, said: “It’s great to be a part of a program that links the benefits of sport by providing reward and opportunity to motivate and help young people to realize their potential in a school environment, and to change lives for the better in UK society. I’m honoured to have been a part of Milbank team and their fundraising efforts.”

SOHK exists to empower and support individuals facing social inequality and enables meaningful change in participants’ lives. SOHK’s mission is to foster a society in which everyone is given the opportunity to realise and fulfil their potential, through running life-changing programs through sport for both adults and children.

The Milbank fundraising team was led by partner James Cameron and associate Amy Bradley, it also included Ana Grbec, William Cusack, Kimberley Williams, Anastasia Kontaxi, Ben Andrews, Ryan Cattle, David Cooper-Parry, Richard Croft, Christopher Puttock and Heledd Phelps-Brown.
