Milbank LLP Antitrust partners Fiona Schaeffer and Grant Bermann will speak at an upcoming conference at the University of Oxford entitled “Sustainability and Competition Law: Friends or Foes?” The conference will explore the growing intersection between antitrust law and efforts to promote sustainability. It will feature speakers from government, private practice and academia.

The conference is co-sponsored by the ABA Section of Antitrust Law, the world’s largest organization of antitrust lawyers. It will take place in person on February 9 from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m. GMT at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. A reception will follow. Free registration is available here.

Ms. Schaeffer is one of the nation’s leading antitrust lawyers and the current Chair of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law. Her practice spans all aspects of antitrust law, including merger review, government investigations and antitrust counseling. In recent years, a significant portion of her practice has focused on advising clients on the antitrust risks of environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) initiatives, including competitor collaborations intended to promote sustainability. She has also worked with clients to develop and implement strategies to mitigate those risks while achieving client objectives.

Mr. Bermann’s practice focuses on the full range of antitrust matters. He represents clients in investigations by the DOJ, FTC and state attorneys general, as well as in litigation before federal and state courts. He has written and spoken on a range of antitrust topics, including the antitrust risks of ESG initiatives in the current enforcement environment. In September, he served as Co-chair of another conference on antitrust and sustainability at Howard University School of Law. He is a leader in the ABA Section of Antitrust Law, where he serves as Co-chair of the Transportation and Energy Industries Committee.
