Milbank LLP advised as lenders' counsel in connection with Revera Energy's non-recourse senior debt financing of its Hunterston Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project (400 MW/800 MWh) in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The financing was provided by Santander CIB, Barclays, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and NatWest.
Hunterston BESS is Revera's second UK transmission-connected BESS to achieve financial close in 2026, following the Windyhill BESS (200 MW/400 MWh) project, on which Milbank also advised the lenders. With up to 1 GW/2.8 GWh, Revera's UK BESS portfolio, when complete, will be one of the largest BESS platforms in Europe.
The London-based Milbank team was led by Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance partners Matthew Brown and Seyda Duman, with support from associates Samuel Forsyth, Harriet Ohemeng, Ignatius Quin and trainee solicitor Ian Currie.
