Milbank LLP has advised the shareholders of ALPINA Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH + Co KG on the sale of the ALPINA brands to the BMW Group. The successful transaction marks the beginning of a new chapter for the long-standing close partnership between the two companies.

The acquisition of the ALPINA brands creates more automotive diversity in the BMW Group’s own luxury segment. Until the end of 2025, the Bovensiepen family company will continue to develop, manufacture and sell the exclusive BMW ALPINA automobiles from the existing cooperation. In addition, ALPINA Burkard Bovensiepen GmbH + Co. KG and the BMW Group will continue to work closely together in the future, including further expansion of the existing development and service business for BMW. The family-owned company is strategically reorganizing itself, strengthening its Classic business and will in future make its know-how and engineering expertise, established over decades, available to other car manufacturers in both the field of classic combustion technology and increasingly in electromobility.

The closing of the transaction is still subject to various conditions precedent, including the approval by the relevant antitrust authorities.

The Milbank team was led by partner Dr. Martin Erhardt (Corporate/M&A) and included partners Dr. Sebastian Heim (Corporate/M&A), Dr. Thomas Kleinheisterkamp (Tax), Dr. Alexander Rinne (Antitrust) as well as associate Johannes Rogge-Balleer (Corporate/M&A, all Munich).
