Los Angeles Business Journal Recognizes Five Partners as “Leaders in Law” for 2020

Five Milbank partners have been recognized by the Los Angeles Business Journal as “Leaders in Law” for 2020, honoring the significant accomplishments of leading attorneys in Los Angeles-based law firms.

Nominees, finalists and winners were honored in a virtual webinar on November 18, 2020. Winners and finalists were featured in the November 30, 2020 issue of the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Deborah J. Conrad, Nominee for Corporate 

As a partner in the firm’s Global Corporate Group, Deborah Conrad assists clients in a broad range of corporate transactions. She represents public and privately-held companies, investment banks and private equity funds in public offerings, private financings, mergers and acquisitions and other sophisticated transactions. Ms. Conrad also counsels issuers and holders of distressed debt securities in transactions that are designed to deleverage distressed companies pursuant to voluntary exchanges of debt. In addition, Ms. Conrad provides ongoing advice on corporate governance and other matters to boards of directors and special committees of public and private companies.

David I. Gindler, Winner for Intellectual Property

As a partner in the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group and the head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation and Licensing Group, David Gindler’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and licensing, with an emphasis in complex patent litigation. While nationally recognized by Chambers USA for his expertise in life sciences matters, Mr. Gindler’s work spans a broad array of industries and technologies. He has achieved extraordinary trial outcomes for both plaintiffs and defendants, including a $302 million verdict for breach of a research and license agreement, as well as defeating a $217 million damages claim where liability had already been established in an earlier trial handled by a different law firm. Mr. Gindler also negotiates complex intellectual property license agreements involving cutting-edge technologies and creative financial structures, frequently working on behalf of colleges and universities.

Alex G. Romain, Nominee for Litigation

As a partner in the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group, Alex G. Romain is a leading national trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience representing individuals and corporations in high-stakes complex commercial litigation, white collar defense, and internal investigations. Mr. Romain has successfully defended numerous law firms, accounting firms, and actuarial firms against claims of professional negligence and malpractice and on conflicts issues. He has also defended individuals and corporations against allegations of campaign finance violations, obstruction of justice, bank fraud, environmental pollution, theft, fraudulent misappropriation, and attempted murder.

Mark Shinderman, Finalist for Bankruptcy

As a partner in the firm’s Financial Restructuring Group, Mark Shinderman has almost 30 years of experience restructuring companies inside and outside of bankruptcy in numerous industries, directing bankruptcy-related litigation, and handling the purchase of assets out of bankruptcy. He often represents ad hoc committees of lenders and bondholders and creditors’ committees, as well as debtors, purchasers of assets from troubled companies, key vendors, equity sponsors, and other important constituents in insolvency situations. He also has represented numerous clients involved in litigation and transactions in which the counterparty may be in financial distress, helping the clients mitigate potential insolvency risk.
