Milbank LLP is pleased to announce that Andrea Hamilton has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Global Corporate Group. Expanding the firm’s global antitrust capability into the United Kingdom, she brings nearly two decades of global experience in antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, litigation, compliance and counseling, as well as foreign direct investment.

Drawing from Ms. Hamilton’s extensive experience advising clients on complex and strategic competition matters, her practice focuses on European Union and UK merger control and international foreign direct investment reviews, as well as conduct investigations and antitrust litigation.

Alexander Rinne, head of Milbank’s European Antitrust practice, stated: “As the UK continues to extend the scope and rigor of its foreign investment control regime, Andrea’s expertise will be essential for clients to effectively navigate this regulatory hurdle. We are excited to increase the breadth and depth of our European and Global antitrust offering. Andrea brings deep international expertise advising leading aerospace and defense, industrial and life sciences clients, and her background will undoubtedly benefit our existing clients in those areas.”

Ms. Hamilton regularly represents clients before the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the European Commission in merger control reviews and antitrust investigations. In addition to advising leading firms in the aerospace and defense and life sciences industries, as well as private equity investors, in recent transactions, she advised Bemis in its $6.8 billion merger with Amcor. She also advised Praxair, Inc. in connection with the global divestments required for the consummation of the $90 billion Praxair-Linde merger, a transaction led by Milbank partner Lisa O’Neill.

Julian Stait, co-managing partner of the London office, added: “Andrea is an incredibly talented and well-respected lawyer that joins our office as the UK continues to navigate Brexit, which has greatly affected our clients’ merger reviews. Having Andrea on board puts us in a strong position to deal with emerging antitrust enforcement from the CMA, particularly in the post-Brexit world.”

“Andrea is a welcome addition to the firm’s international antitrust practice,” said Fiona Schaeffer, head of Milbank’s US Antitrust practice. “Her expertise in foreign direct investment reviews, which are becoming a more significant element of cross-border transactions, will be particularly invaluable to our clients.”

Ms. Hamilton was named by Global Competition Review in 2021 to its Women in Antitrust survey in view of her outstanding contribution to the international antitrust community. Previously, in 2015, she was recognized as one of the 40 leading private practitioners in the world under the age of 40 and has been recommended by The Legal 500 – Europe, Middle East & Africa as a “key name” in recognition of her demonstrated industry knowledge. Ms. Hamilton is also a member of the International Bar Association Antitrust Committee, serving as a member of its Mergers Working Group and as a co-chair of its Ad Hoc Working Group on Digital Economy. She is also a member of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section. She is a co-editor and co-author of Gun Jumping in Merger Control.

“I am excited to join the Milbank team in London and collaborate with my colleagues in Europe and across the ocean,” Ms. Hamilton said. “Milbank is a leader in corporate transactions and my background naturally aligns with the type of work and clients the firm regularly engages.”

Ms. Hamilton joins Milbank from the Brussels office of McDermott Will & Emery, where she was partner. In addition to being a qualified Solicitor of England & Wales, she is also a member of the New York and Washington, DC bars and the Brussels Bar (B-List).
