Milbank Litigation & Arbitration Group partner and Global Executive Committee member Stacey J. Rappaport has been selected by Corporate Counsel as a 2020 Women, Influence & Power in Law (“WIPL”) Award recipient. The WIPL Awards honor North American general counsel and law firm partners who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to advancing the empowerment of women in law. Ms. Rappaport received the “Women’s Legal” award, which recognizes “[w]omen who are truly able to put in place important and lasting changes in their organization/firm.”
Throughout her nearly two and a half decades at Milbank, Ms. Rappaport has been a passionate advocate and exemplar for women’s advancement in the firm. In 2018, she became the first female partner elected to Milbank’s five-member Global Executive Committee. Prior to her election to the Global Executive Committee, Ms. Rappaport held a two-term elected position on the Firm’s Compensation Committee. She is also a founding member and served as the first chair of Milbank’s Women’s Initiative Committee. In these capacities, Ms. Rappaport has worked to ensure equitable opportunity and treatment for women lawyers across every seniority level, office, and practice.
Ms. Rappaport’s practice focuses on complex financial transaction cases involving insurance, commercial disputes, mergers and acquisitions, and securities. She represents some of the most distinguished corporations and financial institutions in the country and currently leads the defense of major insurance companies in cost of insurance adjustment class action litigation.
Ms. Rappaport is a member of several non-profit boards, including the Board of Directors of Sanctuary for Families, Inc., New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and gender violence. She is also a board member of the Center for WorkLife Law at the University of California at Hastings and has served on the Advisory Board of the Hastings Leadership Academy for Women, of which she is an alumna. Ms. Rappaport also serves on the Board of Lincoln Square Legal Services, Inc., Fordham Law School’s student legal clinic.
Ms. Rappaport’s WIPL Award adds to a number of accolades she has garnered in recent years, including recognition as a Benchmark Litigation 2021 New York Litigation Star, Euromoney’s 2020 Women in Business Law Award “Best in Insurance and Reinsurance,” and inclusion in Crain’s New York Business 2019 Notable Women in Law. In 2019, she was honored with the Champion of Justice Award from the Fordham Law School Feerick Center for Social Justice.
