Roland Estevez is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

Mr. Estevez’s practice is primarily focused on the representation of financial institutions, multi-nationals and developers across a broad spectrum of sectors, including power (focusing on renewable energy and energy transition), infrastructure (digital, transportation and social) and oil and gas throughout the Americas.

His recent representations include:

  • Representation in connection with multiple Brookfield acquisition financings, (a) in respect of minority interests in First Energy Transmission, Cove Point LNG and the Los Ramones Norte and Sur pipelines in Mexico and (b) Triton International, Duke Energy Renewables (now Deriva), Gas Natural Colombia assets from Gas Natural Fenosa in Colombia, among others;
  • Representation of financing parties (term lenders, institutional investors and underwriters) in the $14 billion holdco project financing of two semi-conductor fabrication facilities in Arizona in partnership between Brookfield and Intel Corp;
  • Representation in connection with Actis’ acquisition of (a) Enel Generacion Perú (renewables portfolio in Peru), (b) the Mitsui Falcon portfolio as well as EVM I and EVM II of co-generation power plants in Mexico and related 144A and working capital facility financing (now Valia), and (c) Intergen’s Mexican 1,000+ MW portfolio (now Saavi);
  • Representation in connection with Patria’s development and financing of the construction of a 1000 l/s desalinization plan and aqueduct project (AguasPacifico), including maritime works;
  • Representation of Google in connection with multiple investments through-out the energy sector;
  • Representation in connection with the acquisition of LNG infrastructure vessels owned by New Fortress Energy Inc. (“NFE”) by a newly formed joint venture between funds managed by Apollo Global Management (“Apollo”) and NFE (Brazil);
  • Representation in connection with Macquarie Asset Management’s joint venture with Hydro Rein to develop Feijão a 586 MW combined solar and wind power project (Brazil); and
  • Representation in the Chilean financings of (a) Sonnedix’s Arcadia renewables portfolio and PMGD portfolio financing, (b) La Cruz’s solar project financing (owned by Brookfield), (c) Mainstream’s financing of over a 1000MW portfolio of solar and wind projects, (d) TotalEnergies Santa Isabel solar project, (e) OPDEnergy’s La Estrella & Sol de los Andes, (f) Aela Energia’s Sarco, Aurora and Cuel projects, (f) (g) Ibereólica’s and EDF Energies Nouvelle’s Cabo Leones project (h) EDF Energies Nouvelle’s and AME’s Santiago Solar project and (i) financing of Hidroeléctrica La Higuera, a 161 MW run-of-river hydropower plant.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Mr. Estevez speaks Spanish natively. He received a business degree in Economics from the University of South Florida and a law degree from the Hofstra University School of Law where he was a member of the Hofstra Law Review. He is listed as a leading project finance lawyer in Chambers Latin America (Projects), Chambers USA (Expert in Projects) and the The Legal 500.
