Pilar W. Martins is an associate in the New York office of Milbank LLP and a member of the firm’s Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group. 

Primary Focus & Experience

Ms. Martins’ practice focuses on the representation of project sponsors and financial institutions on a range of US and cross-border project financings. 

Ms. Martins' recent experience includes the representation of:

  • The tax equity investor in connection with a 65 MW solar photovoltaic generating facility in Pennsylvania and a 50 MW facility in Virginia, as part of a strategic long-term agreement covering 1.5 GW of solar project development.
  • The tax equity investor in connection with the financing of a 1,200 MWh battery energy storage system in California.
  • The lenders in connection with an acquisition financing in which Global Infrastructure Partners will purchase Eversource’s 50% equity interest in the South Fork and Revolution offshore wind projects being developed by Orsted.
  • The tax equity investor in connection with the financing of the north portion of SunZia Wind Project in New Mexico. The SunZia Wind project represents over 3,500 MW of new renewable generation located in Torrance, Lincoln, and San Miguel Counties, New Mexico.
  • A syndicate of more than 20 commercial banks in connection with a $1.6 billion financing of two 320 MWac solar photovoltaic projects and two 640 MWh battery energy storage projects in Texas.
  • A developer in connection with a $184 million refinancing of a portfolio of assets in Mexico and Central America.
  • A syndicate of commercial banks in connection with a $370 million financing for phases 1 and 2 of the "Oasis de Atacama" project in Chile, including a 220 MW solar PV plant and a battery storage system with up to 1.24 GWh of capacity.
  • The lenders in connection with the financing for the development and operation of a portfolio of solar projects in Chile, including 37 PMGD projects with an expected generating capacity of approximately 214 MW.
  • The lenders in connection with a $289 million financing for Latin America's first large-scale standalone energy storage facility in Chile, with 200 MW of installed capacity and 800 MWh of aggregate storage.
  • The lenders in connection with the financing for the development and operation of a portfolio of solar projects in Chile, including one utility-scale project with an expected generating capacity of 94.35 MW and 26 PMGD projects with an expected generating capacity of approximately 95.76 MW.
  • The lenders in connection with the $5 billion financing related to and in connection with the joint venture established between Brookfield and Bloom Energy and Brookfield’s funding requirements thereunder for projects that use the fuel cell systems of Bloom Energy to provide power to data centers in multiple jurisdictions, including in both the U.S. and Europe.
  • Hope Gas Holdings in connection with an amendment to affect a refinancing of its portfolio of pipeline assets in North America.
  • The purchasers in connection with the private placement for Smoky Mountain Holdings, a company that owns a 378 MW portfolio of four hydroelectric generating facilities known as Calderwood and Chilhowee, located in Tennessee, and Santeetlah and Cheoah, located in North Carolina, and associated transmission assets.
  • LS Power in connection with a US private placement financing of an operational transmission project in New York.
  • The export credit agencies and commercial lenders in connection with a $346.2 million senior debt financing package for the development of the greenfield Araguaia Nickel Project in Brazil sponsored by Horizonte Minerals PLC.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Ms. Martins is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and earned her LL.B from Rio de Janeiro State University (Uerj). She holds an LL.M from Columbia Law School. Pilar is a native Portuguese speaker and is fluent in English.
