Daniel J. Michalchuk is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and a member of the firm’s Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group.
Primary Focus & Experience
Mr. Michalchuk represents project sponsors and financial institutions in numerous domestic and international project financings.
Mr. Michalchuk's experience spans various industries and sectors, including:
Conventional power and power transmission, including the recent Canal 3, Carrol County, South Field Energy, Fairview, Lackawanna, Cricket Valley, Essential Power, Towantic and Valley power financings, the Cross Sound Cable and Hudson transmission projects in the US, the Quadra transmission projects in Chile, and several recent sales of power assets in the US;
Oil, gas, LNG and petrochemicals, including the ongoing Cove Point LNG, Midship pipeline and Maurepas pipeline financings, the recent Agua Blanca / Waha Connector gas pipelines in Texas, White Star Petroleum oil and gas gathering systems in Alaska, Nueva Era gas pipeline in Texas and Mexico (both original financing and private placement), Bakken crude oil pipeline, Waha gas pipelines in Texas and Agua Dulce gas pipeline in Texas, the Lake Charles LNG project in Louisiana and the Manzanillo LNG project in Mexico, the Topolobampo ammonia project in Mexico, the South Louisiana methanol project, PDET platform in Brazil and numerous petrochemical facilities in Trinidad including the Term Loan B refinancing of Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited and the recent DeNovo gas pipeline/gas processing unit financing in Trinidad; and
Renewable energy, including the Leeward wind portfolio financing, S-Power wind and solar portfolio financing, San Juan Mesa wind acquisition, Rocksprings wind financing, Huntington and Tapestry wind projects, OneRoof Energy inverted lease program and First Solar Blythe project.
Mr. Michalchuk also has experience in a diverse set of other industries and sectors, including metals and mining, traditional infrastructure and telecom/communications/satellites, including the most recent financing of the Quintillion fibre optic cable transaction in Alaska.

Mr. Michalchuk received a B.A. from Queen's University, Canada, an M.A. in International Relations from Carleton University, Canada, an LL.B. from University of Ottawa, Canada and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center. He is top ranked by Chambers USA in Projects-Nationwide. Mr. Michalchuk is admitted to practice in New York.
