Alex Brightman is a senior associate in the London office of Milbank LLP and a member of the firm’s Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group.

Primary Focus & Experience
Alex focuses his practice on complex energy and infrastructure projects, typically advising energy companies, power developers, mining companies, foreign investors/sponsors, contractors, lenders and host governments. Alex has broad experience in a range of energy subsectors including conventional power, renewables, hydrogen, electric vehicles, biofuels, oil and gas and LNG. He has advised clients extensively on a variety of project delivery methods (including Design-Build, PPP, PFI and BOT among others).
Alex’s recent experience includes:
- Advising the lenders in connection with a financing of an acquisition of project companies engaged in the development of several offshore wind projects across North America.
- Legal advice and support to the project sponsor on the development of a process plant, biomass power plant, ethanol refinery and associated infrastructure for production of sugar, potable ethanol and power in Sri Lanka.*
- Advising Ford with the development of an electric vehicle battery production plant in Turkey.*
- Advising the lenders on the financing of the world’s largest liquid-air-energy storage project located in the United Kingdom.*
- Advising Vodafone in relation to several solar energy corporate PPAs, including the development of 5 solar farms which will generate 216 GWh of electricity every year.*
- Acting for Phanes Group on the development and DFC financing of the 46MW Nkhotakota solar farm in Malawi, one of the first PPAs signed with Malawi’s national utility (ESCOM) and Malawi’s first competitive power sector tender.*
- Acting for the sponsors in connection with the development of a 27 Megawatt run-of-the-river hydropower project in Sierra Leone.*
- Advising a market leading engineering company on the design and manufacture a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser in connection with the development of the Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind project.
- Advising the lenders to a Consortium on a solar PV project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, being procured under Round 2, Category A projects by REPDO.*
- Advising a major development bank on a project for the development and financing of a 50MW geothermal power plant in Tulu Moye, Ethiopia.*
- Advising oil major on development of landmark upstream oil project and gas-to-energy project in Guyana.*
- Advising on a large-scale investment project located in Russia comprising the construction of a methanol plant and associated infrastructure.*
- Advising the project company on the construction agreements for the Qurayyat IWP plant in Oman.*
- Advising a developer in its bid for a PPP wastewater project in Uzbekistan.*
- Advising an Irish mining company on a variety of EPCM and related contracts in relation to a multi-million dollar mine upgrade project in northern Mozambique.*
- Advice and support to the lenders to the successful Macquarie-led consortium on the Silvertown Tunnel PPP project, a major road tunnel project in London.*
