Partner Paul Ng of Milbank’s Transportation and Space Group moderated a panel at the ninth edition of Airfinance Journal Japan on September 2, 2020. The two-day virtual conference delivered a structured agenda covering market updates on the aviation industry both in Japan and in the wider Asia region. Conference speakers included CEOs and senior management from leasing companies, banks, airlines, specialist equity funding arrangers and manufacturers, including Boeing and Rolls Royce.
Mr. Ng’s panel, titled “JOL & JOLCO: What impact did COVID-19 have on the Japanese investors market?,” discussed when investor demand is expected to pick up, market trends, the market outlook for 2020 and other topics related to JOLCO (Japanese Operating Lease Call Option) and JOL (Japanese Operating Lease) products, which are key financing avenues for the acquisition of aircraft with the help of Japanese equity investors. Panelists included Shin Watanabe, Head of Transportation of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing; Takahiro Matsumoto, Managing Executive Officer of FPG; and Stuart Hatcher, Chief Revenue Officer of IBA Group. The session was well received and garnered almost 1000 views.
