In April 2022, a Milbank team representing pro bono client Mark Purnell convinced the State of Delaware to dismiss its murder case against him. After spending nearly 16 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, Mr. Purnell is now a free man. The Milbank team included partner Alan Stone, special counsel Matt Laroche, and associates Marguerite O’Brien, Jordan Fernandes and Sandhya Ramaswamy.

The tireless and exhaustive work performed by Milbank and other pro bono counsel in dismissing the wrongful conviction is highlighted in “Justice Delayed,” a two-part episode of Practising Law Institute’s Pursuing Justice: The Pro Bono Files podcast series.
